June at Mexa Solutions was vibrant as we proudly celebrated Pride Month, standing in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and reflecting on progress made in terms of LGBTQ+ rights. At Mexa Solutions, we’ve always been vocal about our support for the LGBTQ+ community, and this month has been an opportunity to celebrate, learn, and take steps towards creating a more inclusive workplace for all.

The significance of Pride Month dates back to the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, USA, which sparked a movement for LGBTQ+ rights worldwide. It goes beyond rainbows; it’s about creating an environment where people can be free to be themselves, irrespective of their sexual or gender identity.

Our commitment to inclusivity and support began earlier this year during LGBT+ History Month. We dedicated this time to raise awareness, educate ourselves, and assess how we could better support LGBTQ+ individuals in our workplace. Although we’ve maintained a zero-tolerance policy on discrimination through our Equal Opportunities HR policy, we knew we could take further strides.

Following the reflections of LGBT+ History Month, we took significant action by creating a new Diversity & Inclusivity policy to ensure that every individual, regardless of their background or beliefs, is respected and valued at Mexa Solutions. In the pursuit of creating an inclusive workplace, reviewing HR policies is a crucial step for all businesses. By fostering a culture of acceptance and embracing diversity, we believe we can make a positive impact on our staff and our community.

Throughout the month, we’ve engaged in various Pride Month activities. One memorable event was our visit to Portsmouth Pride, where we experienced the festival spirit and a great sense of community. The Pride march was a powerful testament to the importance of these events in raising awareness and campaigning for further change. We are grateful for the opportunity to support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

For us, Pride extended beyond external events. We engaged in a Pride-themed bake/cook-off, where we created rainbow-inspired delicacies. The event was not just about delicious treats; it served as an ongoing conversation about Pride and its significance for the LGBTQ+ community.

We also got creative, designing our own T-Shirts for the Pride march, with slogans and imagery to support the community.

We celebrated the end of Pride Month with a “colourful” day in the office, which wouldn’t have been complete without our rainbow balloon arch! But even though Pride Month is now over, our commitment to diversity and inclusion doesn’t waver. We’ll continue to foster an inclusive workplace that values every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Our updated policies and ongoing efforts ensure that our support for the LGBTQ+ community extends far beyond June.

Pride Month 2023 has been a month of celebration, learning, and growth. We’ve come a long way, but it also reminds us that there is still more to be done. Let’s carry the spirit of Pride with us throughout the year, embracing and supporting the LGBTQ+ community in all aspects of our lives.
