Description
£45,000-£55,000
Bedford, hybrid working with 3 days a week in the office
“Why are we doing it like that?”If you are the kind of Finance Manager who sees a manual workaround and instantly thinks, “that should not exist”, this could be right up your street.
This is a brand new role in a growing tech business where finance needs more ownership, better visibility, and less reliance on manual process.
Nothing here is beyond repair.
But there is too much double-checking, too much re-keying, and too much week-by-week reacting when the business really needs cleaner reporting, stronger forecasting, and tighter control.
This role is all about financial transformational change.
That is why this hire matters.
Your new role..
You will report directly to the CEO and take real ownership of the finance function.
Not just keeping month-end ticking over.
Not just supervising the team.
Actual ownership of process, reporting, controls, billing flow, and improvement.
You will be brought in for transformational change: tightening up legacy process, improving the quality of financial MI, build better forward visibility, and help move the business away from manual admin into something far more joined-up, automated and scalable.
A big part of the early job will be improving how the CRM / PSA and finance systems work together, so billing becomes more automated and less reliant on people catching things by hand.
You’ll also bring more confidence into the numbers. Better management accounts. Better forecasting. Better cash flow visibility. Better decision-making.
And because this role sits on the management team, your input will actually carry weight.
This is not one for someone who just wants to maintain the status quo.
It is for someone who likes sorting things out.
Why this could be a better move for you..
Maybe you are stuck producing numbers but not influencing anything.
Maybe you are fixing the same finance issues every month because nobody gives you the time or backing to solve the root cause.
Maybe you want a broader role where you can improve systems, shape process, support growth, and work closely with a CEO who actually wants finance to be stronger.
That is the draw here.
Longer term, there is genuine scope for this role to grow as the business scales, so if you want your next move to lead somewhere bigger, that is very much on the table.
The organisation..
You would be joining a specialist business that supports complex tech environments, with a strong reputation, good client relationships, and incredible year-on-year growth.
It is not a huge corporate where everything moves slowly.
It is a SME business where decisions can be made, where people are trusted, and where progression tends to come from within.
The culture is solid too. Good people. No toxic nonsense. Transparent leadership. Supportive environment.
And while this role is strategic, there will be a bit of sleeves-rolled-up work early on while the team evolves.
For the right person, that is a plus, not a downside, because it means you get to shape what finance looks like, not just inherit it.
What you’ll bring..
You will probably already be a Finance Manager, Financial Controller, or Senior Finance Lead in a fast-paced SME.
A corporate background in a technology firm, distribution, or another operationally busy business would make a lot of sense.
You should be comfortable with Xero, management accounts, forecasting, cash flow, billing, controls, and process improvement.
You will have citable examples where you have made strategic transformation change for a SME business, changing manual to automated financial processes, that you can showcase.
You will also need the confidence to work directly with a CEO, lead a small team, push change through, and work autonomously.
ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or strong qualified-by-experience background all works.
What’s in it for you..
